Valtavalo Oy, a Finnish company specialising in lighting solutions with replaceable light source, increased its turnover and improved its profitability in the financial period ended in May, despite a challenging operating environment. With the Covid pandemic, the war in Ukraine as well as the global production and logistical challenges overshadowing the financial year, turnover increased to EUR 4.1 million.
A special mention from Tuukka Prykäri, CEO of Valtavalo, goes to the development of foreign trade.
The last financial year was very significant for us, as exports to other EU countries exceeded domestic trade for the first time in the company’s history,” says Prykäri. “International trade increased by about 16 %. Finland still retained its position as the largest single market, but Sweden came close”, he continues.
The company established a sales branch in Sweden in 2017, which has since then developed favorably. Although most exports come from Sweden, the Valtavalo’s factory in Kajaani, in Northern Finland, also regularly delivers to other European countries.
The rise of the circular economy to a more prominent role in society has had a positive impact on Valtavalo’s operations. We are pioneers and advocates of sustainable lighting. It is important for us to be able to provide lighting that withstands the test of time and is environmentally friendly”, says Prykäri.
In addition to the circular economy, the megatrends that continue to dominate – energy saving and environmental friendliness – have been the cornerstones of the company’s operations from the very beginning. Going forward, the company wants to focus more on the customer experience and make lighting purchases easy for customers.
It has been a pleasure to see that the new EU’s Ecodesign Directive encourages companies to engage in the circular economy and draws attention not only to energy efficiency but also to the opportunities to reuse, update, repair and recycle products. In addition, the phase-out of mercury-containing products, such as fluorescent lamps, from the market is a big step in the right direction,” says Prykäri.
Valtavalo manufactures energy-efficient and long-life LED light sources at its factory and supplies its customers with complete solutions based on replaceable light sources.
